Vivian
Kwok at Seasharp Music Studio, located in Rockville, MD has taught
classical music to a variety of young music students for years. Ms.
Kwok is a graduate in Music Performance from Peabody Conservancy of
Music in Baltimore. Ms. Kwok is a founding teacher of the National
Piano Guild.
Classical
music is difficult to learn and perform with the endurance, dynamics
and variance needed to wow audiences, much less piano judges.
Seasharp Music Studio recently in the last two years has had several
students win awards at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center music recital
halls in NYC.
Just
last month, Samuel H. Huie, age 11, won First Place for the State of
Maryland in Maryland State Teacher's Association competitions.
Samuel H. Huie played Aaron Copland's 'The Cat and The Mouse'. Again
on June 15, 2013 at Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in
Washington, D.C., Samuel won a $1000.00 scholarship award.
Another
series of students: Elizabeth Yuan (Age 7), Victoria Chai (Age 9) and
Evan Xue (Age 7), Alice Shi, (Age 12), Cynthia Sheng (Age 12), Katie
Kolodner (Age 11), and Jack Yuan (Age 13) played in NYC at Carnegie Hall or Lincoln Center affiliated recital halls.
Vivian
involves both students and parents. Many weeks and months of study
require the patience and fortitude to master the dynamics needed to
bring their music competitions to a boil !!!
Vivian
works by having the parents right in the music studio either watching
or shooting video of each piano lesson. She expects perfection!!!
The students need to watch others perform and listen to the music
while they practice at home or school. The accomplished students are
beginning to receive scholarships. Samuel Huie and Evan Xue are the
firsts. Many of the
others have played just for family and friends.
Seasharp Music Studio students enter into local recitals at Rockville's Montgomery College. The students are judged by other local music teachers (of course not their own teachers). Next, on to The Maryland State Teacher's Association competitions at College Park, MD in the Performing Arts Center.
At the end of each school year students are judged and complete certificates for their age level. A high school diploma is offered to advanced performers. They have to play for some two and a half hours without music scores and play at random various chord progressions.
If they are successful, the student graduates and becomes a certified music teacher in North America. Several of Ms. Kwok's young piano students have graduated the high school piano curriculum years early.
It is rare to have her students take honors at Carnegie Hall in Music-Fest, MD State Piano Champion at College Park, MD and at The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in The World Invitational Piano Competition. These students have performed beyond their years.
